Asset Titles

Your Asset Titles may prevent your Last Will from disposing of them at your death

Know if they are in your own name alone, or
whether they have joint owners, and/or whether they have beneficiairy designations

Your Last Will disposes of assets that are titled in your name alone

Consequently, a Last Will does not control two, potentially and enormously valuable, categories of assets.  Those with:
Joint Owners (i.e., joint accounts, joint real estate, etc.), as they pass to the surviving owners (via Property Law),
Beneficiary Designations (i.e., annuities, retirement plans, etc.), as they pass to the named beneficiaries (via Contract Law).
